Bollingers of New Orleans, one of the world's largest ship builders, had a problem. They had an opportunity to build 50 Coast Guard cutters, one a month for five years. The problem was to create a slip resistant surface for the entire deck of the ship. The Coast Guard did not want the traditional surface of mineral mixed with paint. The Solution... Bollingers found Martinson-Nicholls' Web Site and called.

We at Martinson-Nicholls, a 40 year old distributor of slip resistant, peel and stick tapes, approached the problem by taking a trip to Bollingers to inspect a ship under construction. We looked at the Coast Guard criteria of an slip resistant system made up of pieces of our most agressive, pressure-sensitive, slip resistant tape. They wanted a system in which any given piece could be replaced instantly while out at sea if, due to various abusive situations, the tape wore or ripped. Under the previous mineral and paint system, the ship was required to be dry docked for several days to correct an abused area. Costly and inefficient.

Bollingers has since signed a contract to build 50 ships over a five year period. Each ship will be equipped with a Martinson-Nicholls slip resistant design. One set per ship will be released once a month. Individual replacement pieces will be available continually and can be sent by UPS the same day.
